School democracy week at Lycée Jules Verne

At Lycée Jules Verne, we encourage civic engagement from a young age!

School Democracy week will take place from 5 to 13 October 2020

School democracy week aims to highlight the importance of electing student representatives and encourages students to run for the available leadership positions.

It’s a time where students elect their representatives (in primary and secondary school) for class council as well as their representatives in the High school Council (CVL) and Middle school Council (CVC). This week will be an opportunity for our students to develop strong leadership traits and play an important role in the school.

The week will be organized as follows:

  • Class representative elections from 5 to 10 October (in primary and secondary school)
  • High school council (CVL) elections on 12 and 13 October
  • Student representative elections for the School Council on 13 October

In middle and high school, each class elects two student representatives at the beginning of the school year.

  • These students will represent their classmates.
  • They will act as mediators between their classmates and other members of the school community: management staff, teaching and non-teaching staff as well as parents.

In secondary school, the two representatives from each class will participate in Class Council sessions. Every term, the council deliberates on pedagogical issues relevant to the class as well as individual students’ performance. All students are eligible and allowed to vote.

In primary school, the two representatives from each class will participate in Primary student council sessions. Every term, the council deliberates on pedagogical issues relevant to the class as well as individual students’ performance. All students are eligible and allowed to vote.

The class representatives and High school council representatives will then elect the Student representatives who will participate in School Council sessions.
