Celebrating Languages! May 27, 2020
Instructional continuity at Lycée Jules Verne
Our school community has been home schooling since the 23rd of March 2020.
It has been a new journey that none of us could have anticipated having to go through in our lifetime. Our students currently have to study and work from home et learn new skills. We don’t have much of a choice: we are doing it, and doing it well!
Owing to the gargantuan efforts of our staff and teachers with the encouragement and support from parents, classes have been able to continue via various online platforms like Zoom, Padlet, Google classroom, while also trusting platforms we’re used to like Pronote. Teachers have spent countless hours working on making sure that our students are not entirely disoriented but rather sufficiently engaged through creative and innovative activities.
The spirit of camaraderie and compassion has been inspiring. We’d like to highlight the amount of work and effort that went in to putting all of this in place from all the professionals involved and we’d like to thank them: teachers, leadership teams, expatriate teacher-trainers of the AEFE whose mission has been completely redirected towards supporting their colleagues. Before the school shut down, our IT department also made sure that students that don’t have laptops at home received a laptop or a tablet. We have more than 110 laptops that were handed out to families thus ensuring that all our students are catered for and connected!
We’d especially like to especially thank you, students and parents, for your commitment and remarkable engagement in the new learning methods that are a challenge for a lot of us but that have shifted our usual way of working and enabled all of us to also gain new personal, professional and technical skills.
These learning methods will evolve continuously owing to your comments and suggestions. Rest assures that the school is in constant communication with parents’ representatives and the school management committees to closely examine the needs and concerns expressed by families.
We are here to support you. We are here to help you. We may be on lockdown be are not knocked down. We will come out of this crises better than we were going into it. But in the meantime, let’s celebrate how our LJV community has come together, stronger than ever!
