On March 8, 2021, the second edition of the French Spelling Bee – ” Epelle-moi Afrique ” took place in Pretoria.
Organized by Muriel Huet of the African Spelling Bee Federation and the French Embassy, the final was attended by students from the CM1 and CM2 classes of the Lycée Jules-Verne as well as young people from the French-speaking communities of Gauteng.
The students were enthusiastic from the moment the project was announced. They did an enormous amount of work in memorizing word lists: they had to learn not only the spelling of each word but also its definition. Congratulations to all of you for your investment!
The 9 finalists (3 young people from Yeoville, 3 students from CM1 and 3 CM2) competed against each other on Monday afternoon. A lot of stress for them, nerves put to the test but fortunately, a warm audience! Isra, Mayella and Lea were our winners of the 2021 edition. Well done, girls! Great way to celebrate International Women’s Rights Day.
